Green areas and playgrounds: the best family routes from our apartments

10/08/2018

Santiago de Compostela is the city of Galicia with the largest green area per inhabitant and has more than sixty playgrounds. If we add a varied museum offer and a complete leisure agenda with shows and cultural activities aimed at all audiences, we can say without fear of being wrong that it is ideal for a getaway or family stay. It should also be borne in mind that the average size of Santiago makes it a city that can be easily covered on foot. Do you dare to take the familiar routes we have prepared taking advantage of the fantastic location of our apartments?

Blanco Amor Apartment

Do you know that this apartment is immersed in a large green area? Yes, you are already in Pablo Iglesias Park. It has promenades, benches, a recently remodeled playground and a medieval aqueduct! Ponte Mantible, commissioned by Archbishop Gelmírez at the beginning of the 12th century and still in use to supply various fountains in the area.
You can continue your walk in the direction of the historic center by a succession of parks that unite virtually without interruption the northern part of the city and we advise you to take it easy because you are likely to have to stop along the way as you will pass through several playgrounds. We highlight the playgrounds of Avenida Xoán XXIII and the Auditorio de Galicia (Parque Música en Compostela), in front of a pond with geese, swans and ducks.

Fonte de Santo Antonio Apartment
Now you can tell the children that you are exactly three minutes walk from the Praza de Galicia playground, one of the most popular among the small compostelanos and where they can play at being pirates skipping waves and watching the horizon from the bow of a boat. Then, we advise you to direct your steps towards the Alameda, the historical park of the city. You will find great walks, ponds or the famous sculpture of the Dos Marías. In addition, you can sit next to Valle-Inclán, say hello to Rosalía de Castro or continue playing in the large playground that is under the staircase that goes to the south campus and that offers one of the most beautiful views of the city (shhh you know keep a secret ?: the 'picheleiros' have here our particular area of' traffic park 'for the little ones, it's where we go with scooters, bikes ...).

Abastos SCQ Apartaments
You are at the heart of the city, in the historic center. But you only have to cross the Virxe da Cerca street to find yourself in the Parque de Belvís or, what is the same, more than twenty thousand square meters of green areas and paths, where you will find sculptural groups, a peculiar group of three labyrinths of boxwood and, of course, a playground. It also houses the Centro de Interpretación Ambiental de Compostela, which frequently hosts family workshops.
The other option that we propose is to leave the Zona Vella in the opposite direction and cross the Praza do Obradoiro to walk along the beautiful Hortas rúa and end at a corner of Galeras Park. There you will be able to enjoy a magnificent area of games next to sports courts and we encourage you also to go up to that big house that you see just above with those terrifying gargoyles. It is located in the Finca do Espiño, which also has a pond, a forest and a meadow with a picnic table and fantastic views of the facade of the Cathedral. You can also join from the Galeras Park to the Sarela river walkway.

You see, if you want to play sports or relax, play or even learn, Santiago and its parks give a lot of play and you will be outdoors and in contact with nature in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Do you want to come and enjoy them? You can already book your apartment of Como en Casa at hola@comoencasa.info or in our web. We are waiting for you!
